Acne Products
Acne products can be over the counter or prescribed by dermatologists. Over the counter acne control products are easily obtainable and less expensive than some of the prescription medicines. Acne solutions found at the local drug store, department store, or online can either be made from naturally-based products or a mix of synthetic and natural products.
The most common types of acne products are basic washes, astringents, moisturizers, spot treatments and masks. Facial cleansers for acne-prone skin should be able not only to clean the skin, but should not in any way contribute to further clogging or irritation. You may want to find fragrance-free and additive-free washes. Astringents and toners can also help to unclog pores by breaking down blackheads and whiteheads, but they can also be drying.
When you use acne products that dry out the skin, it is important to follow up with a moisturizer. Oil-free moisturizers will not contribute to clogging, and they will also help provide a protective layer to keep out fly-by dirt and oil. Heavy moisturizers may prevent the natural release of toxins from your pores, which can lead to further blockage.
Working Acne Products
Masks and peels can also help to bring balance to the skin, but should not be overused or they can cause further damage and irritation. Cream and gel spot treatments are applied directly to blemishes, but you should wash your face normally between applications and be careful not to over-apply, or these products will prove to be too drying. Other acne products include oral capsules and vitamins to fight the problem internally.
