Atopic Dermatitis

Atopic dermatitis (or atopic eczema) is a hereditary form of dermatitis (eczema), and it appears when the skin has allergic reactions as a result of an antibody existing in the skin. The atopic type of this disease is often linked to people who have asthma or who have experienced hay fever. It can be experienced by people at any age, and can be very discomforting.

The signs of atopic dermatitis are extreme itchiness, abnormally dry skin, inflammation and redness. When you constantly scratch at the itchy skin, you can cause it to crack and bleed or become infected. Harsh infections can cause sores to develop with excess fluid built up inside them. This is sometimes called wet eczema.

Emotional factors are not an official cause for atopic dermatitis, but they can contribute to it. Stress can worsen outbreaks, and studies have been done to prove this theory. It is strongly recommended that patients take actions to help themselves remain stress free. Herbal remedies, relaxation techniques and a healthy diet can also help.

Fighting Atopic Dermatitis
As discomforting as itchy rashes on the skin can be, there are medicines and creams you can use to relieve pain and actually help clear up breakouts. Some emollients and antibiotic creams are prescription strength, while other topical solutions can be bought over the counter. There is also a large base of all-natural skin care that you can use to help fight dermatitis.
