Hand Dermatitis
Hand dermatitis or hand eczema can result from several factors including injuries, allergies and genetics. Hand eczema or dermatitis is often experienced by people who work a lot with their hands in industries where they are exposed to harsh elements. Some common industries include housekeeping, mechanics, healthcare, catering, metalworking and hairdressing.
There are different levels of hand dermatitis and affected areas of the hands can also differ. Sometimes it may only affect the backs of the hands, while others may experience flare-ups on the inside of the palms or even both sides of the hands. The dermatitis can also extend to the fingertips and lead to deformity in the fingernails.
Dermatologists and researchers are still studying and trying to understand atopic dermatitis. Hand dermatitis that seems to be passed down in the family is very common. Emotional stress can contribute greatly to this and other types of eczema. It is highly recommended for eczema sufferers to try and monitor and control stress levels.
Causes of Hand Dermatitis
Constant contact with detergents, shampoos, paints and other harsh chemicals can lead to hand eczema. There have been some cases where bartenders have suffered from dermatitis on their hands as a result of exposure to lime juices in combination with ultraviolet lighting. Some people can also experience extreme irritations to latex gloves and see signs of dermatitis as a result.
